I was watching TV as I usually do at night and I was thinking why it is so captivating and how much time goes by while I surf channels looking for something “worth” watching. Funny how many people in the world are all plugged in isn’t it? These days if you don’t have an internet connection you are considered “behind the times”. Having a satellite or cable television source isn’t really thought of as the “in” thing these days is it? You can get by without any form of outside information right? Surely those people who live out in the remote reaches of the world still have radios or something to keep them in the loop. Sometimes I think about how my life would be different if I just woke up and sat on my porch and drank my coffee and never turned on the computer or the television…would my life end? Probably not, but would I suffer because of the lack of information input? I don’t think so, I think about when I have deployed over to Iraq and how for about 6 weeks I didn’t have any TV or PC (with internet capability) to keep me occupied and life went on. I guess it depends on what you like to do in your spare time.
Nowadays the cool thing is to text everyone you know on your mobile phone right? I guess I have reached that age where being cool isn’t as important to me as it once was or maybe I have passed my coolness expiration date and from now on I am one of those people the kids make fun of at the mall as I walk around in my 10 year old shoes and out of style clothes. Oh well, I have never been one to let what others think really bother me. We all think we are cool in our own little worlds I suppose. What does being cool have to do with being entertained anyway?
Well in my opinion the people who run Hollywood and make all those blockbuster movies we all love are defining what it means to be cool for the rest of the world. I mean you wouldn’t go pay to watch a movie about some average ordinary guy who doesn’t do anything spectacular or entertaining now would you? If I wanted to see that I would have someone videotape my life for me so I can watch it and see how truly boring my life is most of the time.
So as I sit here bored trying to come up with something witty to say here, I guess we like to see things that are extraordinary. I think I might have something to offer to the rest of the world with my overactive imagination, but on the other hand who has time to come up with scripts when there is so many movies and songs to see and hear?

It is maybe not ‘Hollywood’, but there are plenty of films that offer experiences, or provoke thoughts, and that is often enough stimulation. It isn’t required to be spectacular or adrenalin-pumping to be interesting.
Whilst it is undoubtedly good to be able to write a powerful work that can excite a person, it is often enough simply to write about experiences, about what happens to you. A human connection can be made between the writer and reader and is most important of all.

good thoughts. i think there is a viewership for the mediocre tho. there is so much crap on youtube that people have posted. so, sometimes it’s the simple things that can entertain as well.
